Bro. Rick and Srichand Horn
Personal Testimony
I was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps (Air wing) June 6, 1976. After discharge, I began working at Ford Motor Co.,
Richard and Srichand Horn
Mrs. Horn and I began our ministering in Bonlouy, Thailand, at the home of Janphong “Yi” Duangipicha (Srichand’s mother). The Lord used this as a springboard to locate and reach out to those to whom we felt we were called, those with the dreaded disease--Leprosy! We also oversaw three of the works of Brother Tommy Tillman. We made many trips into different locations to get a better understanding of what the Lord had for us in His ministry. One special group that continued to stand out, whether we were with the lepers or the Thai people, was the children. Many miles were walked by Srichand and me (no vehicle). During one of the walks into Chiang Mai, we saw a family of beggars: the mother and a small baby on one corner and an older child on the next block, each trying to get enough money to survive for that day. The following day, while walking through the same area, we discovered the family was gone. We later found out that dignitaries were coming through, so the beggars had been moved. In the leper colonies, we saw the hopelessness of the children and how they were just swept away from sight. It was at this time we felt that we needed a ministry specifically to the children--the future of a country and of any church. Our plan was to start in the home of Srichand’s mother. This would mean that we would be able to take in only 4 or 5 children, due to a lack space. We were still overseeing the 3 works of Tommy Tillman and it was during that time that he said that he would help us purchase property to build a home for the children. He did as he promised and we are grateful to him for this investment in the lives of those that have been saved and influenced for the Cause of Christ, through this place. Once the property was secured, Srichand, Yi and I began to clear the land because it had been neglected and had become overgrown. Prior to the construction of any buildings, Srichand and I put up a makeshift tent in which we slept, cooked and held Church Services for the young people that came from the nearby village. The first building to be put up was used for the girls’ dorm. We had a total of 11 young people that had been loaded into the back of a truck, but there were supposed to be only seven. The youngest was Goup, who was not scheduled to be at the home. Goup was so undernourished that he could not sit up by himself—when he was sat him up, he would simply slouch over and stay in that position until someone moved him. A lady from a nearby village was hired to nurse him until he was able to eat regular food. The second building was multi-purpose and was used for the boys’ dorm, dining hall and church. We believe that, because we were willing to do what was needed and live in the environment in which we were placed, the Lord’s blessings have been realized.
As a testimony to the value of a good woman, I never heard Srichand complain about the conditions in which I’ve placed her. Srichand has been a vital part of the ministry and a tremendous helpmeet to me.
